Last Weekend in Windy Welly: December 2-3

Saturday: December 2

I woke up early and finished up my weekly blog post while sipping on a cup of coffee. I was still a bit tired so I went and laid down in my upgraded suite*. I watched Moana and closed my eyes for a half hour.

The nap was refreshing, but now it was time for some grub. I really wanted to try some pho in New Zealand, so I googled some nearby Vietnamese restaurants. Saigon Taste would be my choice. It wasn’t too far so I took a jog/walk to get there.

Look at this dog I saw while walking…just waiting patiently for its owner along a busy road.

Typical NZ dog for you.

So glad I chose Saigon Taste for lunch. It was DELICIOUS and the service was spot on. Nom nom nom.

Next stop: Cuba Street for a Bloody Mary and coffee.

So the Bloody Mary was good, but not as good as Minnesota’s. Different. Very lemony.

My latte was perfect as usual. I love Amsterdam Coffee off of Cuba street.

After my bloody and coffee, I decided I needed some of that scrumptious ice cream I had on date night. The Wendy’s ice cream joint is in a little mall that has a few stores and a cinema. I decided to check out what was playing at the theater. I had no where to be so I purchased a ticket to Wonder with Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson. A half hour was left to kill before my movie was to start so I grabbed my ice cream and checked out a mini craft fair that was going on.. The vendors were preparing to leave, but one vendor wrote down a fair that was going on the next day. The Thorndon Fair.

My movie lasted about two hours. I started my jog/walk back home. It was about 7:30p by the time I got back. After I showered up, the roommates had dinner prepared. They made avocado pesto with noodles. Yummy.

After dinner, a plan was made to hit up some fairs the following day, including the Thorndon Fair. It would be an older girls days including Franzi, Christina, and myelf.

I was pretty tired so I decided to go lay down in the suite and watch Sster Act.

*Upgraded suite: there is a room in the house that has two beds. Since I’ve been there, the younger boys swoop in and occupy the room whenever someone moves out. Didn’t matter to me though, I didn’t mind sleeping in 4 person bunk room. When we had 6 girls and 4 boys, the two boys had to move out to let two girls in. Ed, the manager, asked that the two oldest girls move in the bedroom. Pays to be the oldest.

Sunday: December 3

According to plan, the older girls got up, got ready, and caught the bus by 8:40a. We hit up the City Market (like a farmers market), Underground Market (like a craft fair), and the Thorndon Fair (a large craft fair (like the Underground Market but with an estimated 20,000 visitors)). I got a few gifts there and enjoyed my time looking at all the creative art.Thought of mom and Jack

We headed back towards the bus stop to go home. I decided to stay back and do some more walking around so I sent Franzi and Christina off instead. I was also wanting more Pho (I may or may not be addicted), but decided on a different location than yesterday… Mekong also had great pho! My tastebuds were satisfied so I started my walk home. I stopped at a few shops and at the National War Memorial. Unfortunately it was closing by the time so I couldn’t go inside, but I got a picture of the outside….

Shortly after I got home, my head started to hurt so I laid down and watched An Inconvenient Truth. The movie is a documentary on climate change. Wish climate change wasn’t so political. Just do your part by doing the best you can knowing that the climate IS changing. Whether the change is part of a cycle or not, everyone can do their part by doing small things. Pick up garbage when you go on a walk, recycle cans and plastic (rinse plastics), try to compost (store food in a plastic container and bring it to your nearest compost station- google it), buy energy efficient appliances if you can afford it, use cold water instead of hot when possible, hang your clothes outside, walk, cycle, or take public transportation to work, etc.

….Then I fell asleep and that was my last weekend in Wellington.
